Resumen

Este artículo considera cómo los peka (fragmentos) del conocimiento indígena maorí que sufrieron el impacto de la expoliación y el borrado coloniales (Pouwhare y McNeill, 2018; Pouwhare, 2019) pueden discutirse dentro de una revisión contextual de la literatura. La tesis doctoral guiada por la práctica indígena que sustenta el artículo pregunta: "¿Cómo podría una reconsideración artística de la diferenciación de roles de género dar forma a nuevas formas de expresión en las artes escénicas maoríes?" Específicamente, este estudio se ocupa de generar y comprender espacios donde los principios de takatāpuitanga (orientación sexual) e irarua/irarere (fluidez de género) pueden encontrar una expresión útil dentro de una cosmovisión indígena maorí. Además de revisar la literatura existente, la tesis también implica entrevistar a takatāpui tane (hombres homosexuales maoríes) y académicos maoríes, ya que busca exhumar o contextualizar conocimientos fragmentarios.

Tangaroa Paora, Auckland University of Technology

Tangaroa Paul (they/them) of Muriwhenua descent, is in their final year of a Phd in practice-led research that explores gender role differentiation through the nature of performance. They also are a lecturer of Te Ara Poutama - Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies at Auckland University of Technology, teaching in te reo Māori, Media, Gender Studies and more. Tangaroa is passionate about Kapa Haka (Māori Performing Arts) and is finding a space for gender fluidity to exist in this art form.
