CONSIDERING THE FILM HERITAGE FROM A PUBLIC POLICY PERSPECTIVE
AN ANALYSIS OF THE FRENCH CASE

In this article, we seek to present an overview and reflection on public policies for film heritage in France. We have historically contextualized the French State concerns towards this matter, its evolution and how it has been translated into effective measures to stimulate and support the sector. Such concerns seem to be focused on two pillars: strengthening of film heritage institutions and private sector engagement / involvement in this field in order to expand actions around the recovery and dissemination of film works from the past. In this sense, we also present here the public funding mechanisms currently available for the area in that country.
