Ethics policy
The GEMInIS Journal Adopts and Recommends the Following Commitments and Practices for its Key Stakeholders:
Authors:
- Authors are responsible for the work they have written and must ensure adherence to ethical standards in scientific research (e.g., absence of plagiarism, proper attribution of credits), as well as the ethical principles of the field of knowledge to which the study pertains.
- All researchers who have made a significant contribution to a given manuscript must be credited as authors, with authorship hierarchy determined by order of contribution.
- If any aspect of the work could raise questions regarding potential conflicts of interest, the author must declare in a concluding note that no affiliations with funding bodies, or commercial or political institutions have been omitted. Similarly, the institution to which the author may be affiliated or which collaborated in the execution of the study must be mentioned, disclosing that there are no conflicts of interest with the presented results.
- If the research described in the manuscript submitted to GEMInIS Journal involves any form of experimentation with human subjects, the author must state that the work complies with the ethical procedures for such scientific research.
- When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in work they have published in GEMInIS Journal, they must promptly notify the editors so that relevant corrections can be made and indicated in the published article.
Reviewers:
- Reviewers must inform the editors of any type of ethical misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, work already submitted to another publication) that they perceive in the work under review.
- Works must be evaluated solely based on criteria related to the scientific quality of the original manuscript (e.g., originality, relevance, contribution to the field of study), aiming to express clearly, respectfully, and with reasoned arguments the reasons for recommending approval or rejection.
- Any reasons that prevent an objective evaluation of a manuscript by the reviewer must be communicated to the editors, who will cancel the review request without any prejudice to the reviewer.
- The inability to meet deadlines or perform the review must be communicated to the editors, who will take measures to preserve the manuscript's evaluation workflow.
Editors:
- Submissions are screened using anti-plagiarism software before undergoing the peer-review process. Cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism will lead to the manuscript not being accepted by the Journal.
- Suspicions that works submitted to GEMInIS Journal involve any type of scientific misconduct, such as those described in the FAPESP Code of Good Scientific Practices (e.g., data fabrication and falsification, plagiarism), will prompt an inquiry for clarification and potential cancellation of the submission.
- Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and knowledge in the area of the submitted work, seeking to avoid any type of conflict of interest or discrimination that could1 compromise the evaluation based solely on scientific merit.
- The Journal preserves the anonymity and confidentiality of authors of submissions and their reviewers to maintain the integrity of the evaluation process.
- Once a manuscript is accepted for review, the Journal strives to ensure the best possible editorial workflow, without any form of discrimination, and is prepared to provide authors with clarifications regarding the status of their submission.
- If a published work receives an allegation of ethical misconduct or inaccuracy, the Journal's Editorial Board will conduct an investigation, in consultation with the author. Should the veracity of the allegation be confirmed, the Journal will take measures ranging from correction to retraction of the work.
