This article proposes a critical-analytical analysis of Le Bled (1929), by Jean Renoir, focusing on the sequence of the landing of the French army in Algeria, in the 19th century. Our objective is to study how visual and narrative elements of an avant-garde cinematographic movement, French impressionism, were used to serve colonial propaganda and the exaltation of patriotism and French military strength in an occupied territory.
