Abstract

Although China has become a significant country in political and economic fields, few studies are conducted in Brazil about the country from the media's studies perspective. The article discusses the Chinese television industry, from the recent transformations caused by the emergence of the digital environment. We explored the case of the video on demand platform iQIYI, one of the biggest representatives of the SVOD market. We use the bibliographic review, aiming to contribute to the de-westernization of studies on television and on digital platforms. We conclude that the State is a key element for understanding the SVOD market's dynamics in China.
