THE CASE OF FARGO’S SERIALIZATION

Abstract

The recent increase in television serial narrative has drawn attention to the production of prestigious shows adapted from well-known films. In addition to the questions of intertextual relations, these adaptations raise the question of authorship. From the case study of Fargo, a serial adaptation from showrunner Noah Hawley based on the movie from authors Joel and Ethan Coen, we propose a discussion on the discursive construction of authorship in television and film. Finally, we argue that the defense of authorship from television writers relates closely to the legitimacy of contemporary television.

Professora Adjunta do Centro de Cultura, Linguagens e Tecnologias da Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (CECULT-UFRB). Possui doutorado em Estudos Cinematográficos pela Université de Montreal - Canadá (2009). Atua como pesquisadora no grupo de pesquisa Laboratório de Análise de Teleficção (A-Tevê) do POSCOM/UFBA. Lidera o grupo de Pesquisa e Extensão Cinececult - Laboratório de Apreciação e Análise do Audiovisual na UFRB.
