TOXIC FAN PRACTICES IN THE POLEMIC REPERCUSSIONS OF STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

This paper discusses toxicity’s conceptions within mediations that the Brazilian Star Wars fandom made of the behavior of fans in the repercussion of the movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi. From a theoretical perspective that assumes fascination and frustration as the premises for fan engagement, this paper articulates concepts of anti-fandom, fantagonism and toxic practices. From the partial results of my master's research, two conceptions of toxicity are identified in the analyzed publications, indicating that the discussion about toxic fan practices, in this case, was associated with the exacerbation of of fantagonistics dynamics within the saga's fandom in the wake of its Disney era.
