DISPLACEMENT IN DIALECTICS
A PARIS THAT SETS FREE AND IMPRISONS IN LE PONT DU NORD

The paper analyzes Le pont du Nord (RIVETTE; 1981) in order to identify a displacement aesthetic expressed through the dialectic of freedom/imprisonment in the images of Paris. It stems from the hypothesis that the formulations of displacement and dialectic intersect: while Hegel (1964) indicates contradiction as the driving force of a permanent state of transience, the idea of displacement is characterized by a relation of ambiguities and contradictions, which results in the becoming of the individual (FISCHER, 2010). The study proposes the urban landscape of the Franch capital city as a possible meeting point of both theories in the film.
