Abstract

This article introduces the unfilmed and unpublished screenplay of The plague of the ruminants, written in 1967 by filmmaker Luiz Sergio Person and critic and screenwriter Jean-Claude Bernardet, based upon the literary work of the same name by José J. Veiga. We introduce some theorical questions regarding the screenplay text, as well as political-ideological and market aspects related to screenplays, and also the discussion about the importance of the screenplay texts and their occasional literary character. After that, we transpose these screenplay-related questions to 1960's Brazil, analyzing how the collaboration between screenwriters Person and Bernardet deals with these problems.
