TO FOUND ALGORITHMS STRANGE: STRANGER THINGS AND THE PUBLICS OF NETFLIX
Keywords:
Algorithm, Ethics, Publics, Netflix, Stranger ThingsAbstract
We investigate how the algorithmic recommendation in Netflix is configured from the series Stranger Things, highlighted by several publications for having used personal data of users for its creation and production. We have collected 131 user comments about the series on 1/8/2017, analyzed in the light of Netflix's terms of use and privacy policies, news and interviews with producers and directors. Content recommendation and publics formation is based on traces of user actions, archived in databases, and cross-referencing to recommend titles, and used to create and make available original content.Downloads
