The cult of online fans and the transformation of Avenida Brasil into a national cult

The article intends to locate the telenovela Avenida Brasil in relation to the concept of cult TV. The soap opera combined new aesthetic elements with a plot in suspense and provoked in the public identification in the mass and national commotion. The article analyzes the reactions of the critics specialized and popular, the online manifestations of the fans of the telenovela in the communities and the fanpage of Globo on Facebook. It also seeks to apply the peculiar characteristics of Avenida Brasil to the theoretical concept of cult TV, in order to demonstrate that there may be programs that approach cult in Brazilian television.Downloads
