The Last Silent Movie: Writing and Disappearance in Susan Hiller's Work
Keywords:
Visibilidade, Política, ImagemAbstract
What image could assume the extinction of a people? What word could cover the threatened condition of a language? The work of Susan Hiller tries to account for the interweaving of these two issues. Starting from the criticism of the westernized logic of everything to show and to see everything from the images that populate the daily life, the work goes through another path: exposing the gesture and its paradoxical production of visibility as invisibility. No image is given to the viewer, just as no word is known to the reader. It is in the hybrid assembly that the threat and extinction of languages and peoples acquires a form that interrogates the very modes of its exhibition like disappearance.Downloads
