When the TV Goes Beyond the Living Room: by a cultural analysis of the uses of new technological devices

At a time when information and communication technology updates are often available, there is a risk that technological devices per se will be responsible for social transformations: this is a simplification that characterizes technological determinism. The article presents the notion of culture as an alternative to minimize this risk, using a connected television advertisement broadcast on Brazilian TV as an empirical object to exemplify and analyze two contexts in which new technological devices are presented as responsible for determining changes in social behavior departure as a personal approach).Downloads
