Editorial Policy

Revista GEMInIS is an online publication, published every four months, focused on the dissemination of articles, reviews of works and works on the context of media convergence and audiovisual production on multiple transmedia platforms, carried out by researchers from the Graduate Program and the UFSCAR Image and Sound Course. The journal is open to interested parties from other institutions and researchers who wish to submit their work to the Editorial Board.

In this editorial line, themes related to the research lines of our Graduate Program are addressed and encouraged, such as; the phenomenon of media and cultural convergence; contributions on audiovisual narrative and participatory culture; analyzes on media franchises, questions about serial fiction, web marketing and, mainly, the new formats of transmedia narrative; studies on the web and the new spaces of circulation of audiovisual production, the market and the digital economy; film, television and video game production.

It is also dedicated, among many other subjects, to topics related to locative media and mobile devices, application development, Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) and collaborative media that are part of the audiovisual communication ecosystem. The journal accepts contributions in three categories: scientific articles, artistic production and review of works.

Each edition includes a dossier specially prepared based on a specific theme and two sections. The first section is for articles with cross-platform approaches, while the second section, called convergent space, is focused on essays, interviews and reviews.

Mission

Disseminate scientific articles and artistic production that seek to understand, analytically and/or theoretically, the phenomenon of media convergence as an object of study.

Peer Review Process
EVALUATION PROCESS

Papers submitted to the Revista GEMInIS will be evaluated by members of its Editorial Board, as well as by guest ad hoc referees.

 PEER REVIEW

Depending on the submission section, the texts are submitted to the evaluation of two referee consultants, coming from an institution different from that of the author(s), in a blind process, in which the works are analyzed in relation to the following aspects:

  • Thematic Relevance to the Editorial Line of the Publication
  • Finishing / Text Quality
  • Theoretical-methodological consistency
  • Originality of approach

The evaluators fill out the opinion form accepting or rejecting the submitted work, in addition to being able to recommend necessary corrections and/or adjustments. Every opinion will include its reasoning. This initial assessment process can last an average of four (4) months.

In the case of requests for changes to the article, it may be forwarded to the authors so that they can make the requested corrections within the period established by the Editorial Board, which may be up to 15 calendar days, when they must resubmit the text for further consideration.

In case the work is not resubmitted within the specified period, the editors send an e-mail requesting a response from the authors within seven (7) calendar days and the submission process is subsequently archived.

The peer review process will preserve the identity of authors and their affiliations.

After the evaluators' opinions, the work is evaluated by the Responsible Editor, who may request other adjustments before final approval.

In some cases, the Editor-in-Chief may also request opinions from the Editorial Board before deciding whether to approve or reject the article.

The editorial decision is then communicated to the author(s).

Plagiarism

In case of identification of plagiarism in the manuscript, both by our reviewers and by the editors, the submission will be rejected and archived and the authors will be informed afterwards. To identify plagiarism, the CopySpider software is used - https://copyspider.com.br/main/
